The Sudanese Environment
Conservation Society (SECS) is Sudan's foremost environmental
authority supporting grass-roots community driven programs addressing
climate change impact and adaptation, ecological restoration,
bio-diversity, sustainable agriculture. With a broad base membership
of leading scientists, ecologists, academics, and young volunteers,
SECS serves as the regional coordinating body environmental
networks such as the Nile Basin Discourse - an NGO consortium
of the 10 Nile Basin Countries, along with other regional.
ABOUT
SECS: The Sudanese Environment Conservation
Society (SECS) is a registered NGO and national voluntary society
established in 1975. The main goal of the Sudanese Environment
Conservation Society is the conservation of the environment
and achievement of Sustainable development through community
participation. SECS is an active NGO enjoying a leading role
in the formulation and execution of an environmental literacy
program. SECS emphasizes the strong linkage between the environmental
well-being and the welfare of the people and believes that peoples'
participation and involvement are the key principles to meet
this end. SECS target groups are the public at large with emphasis
on local communities and intermediate groups or multipliers,
decision makers, teachers, law people, women, farmers, pastoralists
and local leaders. SECS membership is composed of men, women,
professionals, teachers, students and ordinary citizens. This
membership represents SECS membership in 120 branches all over
Sudan.
The Environmental
Forum is an independent offshoot established by SECS. It includes
about eighty six distinguished and multidisciplinary members,
academics, environmental specialists, technocrats, politicians,
representative of National NGO's and a number of public figures.
The Environmental Forum is nursing issues of environment and
development and looking after practical, applicable and replicable
small pilot projects mainly concerned with conservation of environment
and contributes to alleviation of poverty in rural and sub-urban
areas.
PARTNERSHIP:
In the USA,
Empowerment Works is proud to serve as SECS organizational representative
engaging support and strategic non-profit partnerships to advance
a variety of critical programs that support its common mission
for a healthy, sustainable and peaceful Sudan. Globally, SECS
works directly with (IUCN) International Union for the Conservation
of Nature, DED, Horn of Africa Environmental Center and many
others. SECS is a focal point for programs of the United Nations
Development Program (UNDP), Environmental Program (UNEP) in
the Sudan.

USA’s collaboration is led by EW Sudan
joint program officer, Dr. Suad Sulaiman, who has served on
SECS executive committee for over 4 years, and active member
since 1975.
